Critics describe Na Hong-jin’s Hope as an unhinged sci-fi epic with awe-inspiring production design and amusingly quaint visual effects, noting that the film delivers its biggest adrenaline rushes when it focuses on the unraveling of its hapless human heroes. They gave it a solid 80% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.

According to Box Office Mojo, the South Korean thriller Hope debuted at #8 in North American box office rankings. It collected a solid $5 million over the 5-day debut weekend despite playing over just 1,560 theaters in North America. It delivered a rare $3.2K per-theatre average for an international film on a wide release.
