Resident Evil at the worldwide box office
The horror movie set a franchise record on its first Monday at the domestic box office. It raked in $5.3 million, scoring the 7th biggest Monday of all time for an R-rated horror and the 6th biggest Monday ever for video-game adaptations. The reboot by Zach Cregger has hit the $65.5 million cume at the box office in North America in four days.
According to Box Office Mojo, Resident Evil collected a solid $48.3 million at the international box office in its opening weekend. It is also the first film in the franchise to open with a $100 million-plus collection worldwide. Now, combining the latest domestic total with the overseas gross, the worldwide total for the horror movie has hit $113.7 million. It is expected to cross $150 million in its second weekend, but it will also face more competition and could lose the #1 spot in the domestic rankings.
