The upcoming movie, directed by Mike Flanagan, is the seventh in the Exorcist franchise. The film features an ensemble cast comprising Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jacobi Jupe, John Leguizamo, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, and Carla Gugino.
The Exorcist at the North American box office
According to Box Office Mojo‘s report, The Exorcist, which was originally released in 1973, remains the all-time highest-grossing film in the franchise. It was re-released a couple of times and collected more than $233 million at the North American box office, including the re-releases.

It collected $193 million in its original run alone and was not released internationally back in 1973. It crossed the $200 million milestone in North America upon re-releases and held the title of remaining the franchise’s top-grossing film for decades.
